People join our diving internships from many different backgrounds, with differing budgets, schedules and objectives. For this reason we offer a number of different scuba diving internships on Koh Tao, so you can pick the one which suits you best.
Here’s some general information about how the scuba internships run, the steps involved in the PADI training, and what each qualification allows you to do.
Simple Life’s gap year dive internships follow PADI’s diver education system.
PADI is the biggest and most recognized diver training agency in the world, so gaining a professional PADI qualification such as Divemaster or Open Water Scuba instructor puts you in a great position no matter where you travel.
First here’s a flowchart which illustrates the order of the main PADI courses:
In brief, the further along the PADI ladder you go, the greater your opportunities and earning potential. However, each step requires you to build up more scuba diving experience, undertake more training and will obviously require a greater investment of time and money.
PADI Divemaster is the first professional level in the PADI system. DMs are trained to organising dive trip logistics, guide underwater tours and assist in the training of new divers.
PADI Instructors are qualified to train new divers. This is a significantly higher rating.
And our shorter Explorer and Conservation Internships offer the chance to explore diverse diving activities.
Whichever dive internship you choose you’ll be sure to learn lots and have a great time here at Simple Life Divers, Koh Tao.
You’ll get to work together with the rest of our team of experienced western PADI Instructors and Divemasters, assisting in the training of new divers, helping out with diving logistics and becoming part of the Simple Life team. Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!
