How to Travel to Koh Tao

Getting to Koh Tao is easy and Thailand is well setup for tourists.

First, you’ll want to book a flight into Bangkok.

Then from Bangkok there are several good options for getting to Koh Tao. Here are the one’s we recommend:

Option 1: Fly to Samui, then Ferry to Koh Tao.

Fastest, most direct route (but most expensive).

An airline called Bangkok Airways operate flights from Bangkok’s main international airport, direct to Samui.

So potentially when you reach Bangkok airport, you can transfer straight to Samui.

When you reach Samui, it’s only a short two hour ferry ride across to Koh Tao.

Option 2: Fly to Chumphon, then Ferry to Koh Tao

Good middle option.

Lower cost flights are available from Bangkok to Chumphon with Nok Air. And the airline have partnered with a ferry company to offer a joint ticket all the way to Koh Tao.

Though Nok Air fly from Bangkok’s northern Don Muang Aiport, rather than the main international airport (Suvarnabhumi). With Bangkok traffic, it can take a couple of hours to drive from one airport to the other.

Another possibility is to break up your journey with one night in Bangkok, prior to flying down to Chumphon the following morning.

Option 3: Lomprayah Joint Bus + Ferry Service to Koh Tao.

Convenient budget option.

The ferry company operate their own joint bus + ferry service all the way from Bangkok to Koh Tao.

Buses depart twice daily from Bangkok, driving about 7 hours south to Chumphon where you board a high speed catamaran to cross to Koh Tao.
