Donning scuba gear and into the water for the first time, this morning Paula and Martin are making the shallow water skills session of their PADI Open Water diving course with instructor Lucas.
Also joining to assist are Divemaster internship candidate Tomas, and soon-to-be PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) Connor, who as a new instructor is gaining real-world experience by participating in the courses run by more seasoned crew.
For the first in-water session we head to our custom built swimming pools to get familiar operating a scuba unit underwater. The team learn how to assemble the scuba unit, perform pre-dive safety checks and enter the water safely. Then we practice lots of skills both at the surface and underwater, mastering how to operate the scuba unit, control our buoyancy, communicate underwater and stay safe.
Following a few windy days last week, we’re back to belting sunshine in Koh Tao. Tomorrow the team will be out on the dive boat making their first two open water dives, diving the coral reefs off Koh Tao. Sure to be fun 🙂
