Wonderful afternoon out on the Simple Life Divers boat.
Chris from Koh Tao Rescue joined our dive internship trainees and staff to put the crew through their paces responding to simulated diving emergencies.
Exercises kicked off with a missing diver scenario. The team were required to locate a victim, surface and egress to the boat. Then provide emergency primary care and coordinate evacuation and dialogue with emergency services via the dive shop (with Bado probably deserving of an Academy Award).
With scenario one complete Chris gave a thorough debrief of what the team did well and which areas could be further improved.
Next we repeated a similar scenario, dealing with an unconscious diver underwater. Effort number two went much more smoothly and the team resolved the emergency much more quickly, which just goes to show the value of the training session.
Chris also helped refamiliarise and remind everyone of all the equipment and resources available on the dive boat which may be of use in emergency situations.
Later, back on land Chris gave a presentation / workshop covering wide ranging diving situations and best course of action for each. This included hazardous marine life injuries and best treatments.
Simple Life Divers would like to greatly thank Chris and Koh Tao Rescue for running the session. Whilst we hope we never have to deal with a diving emergency, its important to keep our skills and knowledge up to date.
