PADI Divemasters are role models in the dive industry, able to organise dive trips, guide underwater tours and assist in the training of new divers. As such Divemasters must have expert level diving skills and knowledge.
This afternoon dive internship candidates Arnaud, Sarah, Coral and Theresa made a Divemaster skills circuit with senior instructor Steve. The purpose of the session is coaching the gang to perform all the skills from the open water course not just to perfection, but to demonstration standard, emphasising key steps so that a new diver can copy their role model behaviour.
The PADI Divemaster skills circuit covers all important skills. Equipment assemble, buddy checks, entering the water, mask and regulator clearing, buoyancy control and more.
Transitioning from diving for yourself to becoming a role model for other divers is a steep learning curve.
